Wellbeing & Support

You don’t have to feel strong every day.

Being yourself includes the difficult days. Whether you’re looking for support, supporting someone else or taking a little time for your wellbeing, this is a place to start.

For men, women and people of every identity. You don’t need to earn support or have everything worked out before asking for it.

Need help now?

In the UK, call 999 or go to A&E if someone’s life is at risk or you cannot keep yourself or someone else safe.

In England, for urgent mental health help, call 111 and select the mental health option, or ask for an urgent GP appointment. Read the NHS urgent-help guidance.

Outside England, urgent support routes vary. Contact your local health service; outside the UK, use your local emergency number in an emergency.

Small steps, at your own pace

You don’t need to turn today into a challenge. You might make time for a rest, message someone you trust or choose gentle movement that feels comfortable for you. There is no pressure to feel positive all the time.

For practical guidance on sleep, stress, worries and looking after your wellbeing, visit NHS Every Mind Matters. Everyday habits are not a replacement for professional help.

Find information and someone to talk to

  • Mind — information and support: information about mental health, treatment options, everyday life and finding support.
  • Samaritans: someone to listen, day or night, every day of the year. Call free on 116 123.
  • Your GP can help you explore what you’re experiencing and discuss support and treatment options.

Supporting someone else

Make space to listen without judgement. Ask what would help rather than assuming you need to fix everything. You could offer to sit with them while they look for support or contact a professional. Look after your own wellbeing too.
